There’s just something about an all-white kitchen that we can’t get enough of. Designer Heather Chadduck Hillegas designed this one for her Birmingham home, and although she kept it all white, she varied up the specific shades to add depth and dimension.
Another reason to choose a white or neutral paint color? It provides the perfect backdrop to unique furniture and wall art. In this bedroom, the dark bobbin-style spindle bed offers an interesting contrast to the white tone on the walls and the silhouette collection is able to really shine.
The case for choosing a neutral tone for cabinets has been made countless times and for good reason. Creamy white cabinets are a timeless choice that pairs well with both marble and wood.
If only pure white will do, look no further than this white paint color by Sherwin-Williams. It offers a lovely shade of white that is not too stark, especially after it is layered with warm wood furniture and antique rugs.
If your farmhouse has original wood floors and beams and you’re hoping for a look that is more modern farmhouse than rustic, a warm white like this one for the other surfaces is the best choice. White also gives you the freedom to add other fun colorful elements, like the rug and cheerful, yellow side chair in this kitchen.
It’s important to note that due to differences in light, finding the white paint that looks best in your room may take a bit of trial and error. Many homeowners are often pleased with this pretty shade that feels clean and bright without feeling too stark and cold.
Farmhouses have a natural coziness about them. Lean into that feeling by using a warm paint color that makes it feel as if you are in a cocoon. This tan farmhouse guest room is especially luxurious as it touts two queen-sized beds.
To break out of your neutrals-only shell ease into light blues. This one that has soft green undertones is a great choice for both small and large spaces.
Here's another subtle blue that is nice and soothing, making it a nice choice for an ethereal bedroom. The contrast of the black furniture, floor lamps, and door help keep the room grounded.
Beadboard can really elevate a space as opposed to a usual flat finished wall. In this farmhouse bedroom, painting the beadboard a rich gray blue color gives it a cozy, serene feel. The color is repeated with the checked curtain panels and the bedding.
Are you lucky enough to have original paneling in your home? Leave it untouched and opt to inject color into the space in other places. We love the painted brick fireplace and bright blue upholstery in this cozy sitting room.
This pretty shade of blue is light enough to make a room feel airy, but dark enough to make it also feel sophisticated and grounded. The high gloss paint finish on the ceiling in this bedroom offers a polished look that helps create an end result that feels a bit formal without being too stuffy.
Is there anything more country than blue and white? Layers and layers of blue from ceiling to floor make up this adorable bedroom. The pine chest offers a nice contrast to the blue hues.
Blue cabinetry is a great way to add some farmhouse-style color to your kitchen and this cheery blue keeps things on the bright side as opposed to dark and moody. To keep your kitchen from feeling *too* blue, keep the color to the lower cabinets and go with open shelving up top. Even better... add a wallpaper!
If you’re opting for a cozy, cheerful farmhouse, try yellow. Here in this Alabama kitchen, we love how the botanical wallpaper looks with the yellow cabinetry.
Reserve color to the ceiling to add an unexpected pop of color. Imagine opening your eyes each morning to be greeted by this happy shade? It will get most days started off on the right foot.
Try a white that has a hint of pink in it for a soft, more feminine feel. We love the way the pale pink hue looks with this antique brass bed and cream linens.
If you’re redoing a fixer upper, consider leaving some intact some of the rustic patina of the original wood. It gives a room so much character that can’t be replicated with new wood. Some of the original planks in this house were painted a dusty chamomile pink, which we think is a color combination worthy of repeating.
A classic mint green kitchen brings a bit of nostalgia to a farmhouse. In this New York kitchen, the antique wood dining table and chairs pair perfectly with the minty green Shaker-style cabinetry. The shade of mint also provides a nice backdrop for the collection of ironstone or other pottery.
Draw color inspiration from the countryside on which your farmhouse sits. Deep greens make for peaceful bedroom retreats, like this guest room. The twin oak beds are the star of the show while the green paint ties everything together.
