Whether you're gathered around the campfire telling ghost stories or at home prepping for movie night, the entire family is going to be so excited to eat one (or two or three of these golden brown Rice Krispie treats.

They're like s'mores, but better! Similar to roasting marshmallows over the fire, these tasty treats turn brown and take on a nutty flavor (from the sugar caramelizing) when held over a campfire.

Want to make them inside? You can also toast them with your oven's broiler!

Ingredients

  • Cooking Spray
  • 3 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 5 1/2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies or other crispy rice cereal

Directions

    1. Step 1Lightly grease a 9- by 9-inch baking dish.
    2. Step 2Melt butter in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Remove from heat and stir in marshmallows until smooth. Stir in salt and cereal until combined. Press into prepared pan. Cool completely, then chill until cold all the way through, about 30 minutes. Cut into 9 bars.
    3. Step 3Heat broiler to high with the rack in the middle position. Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place desired number of Rice Krispies bars on the prepared baking sheet. Broil, turning once, until golden brown on both sides, 1 to 3 minutes. Alternatively, thread the bars onto long skewers and roast over a fire, turning constantly, until toasted.
